Standard Programs Offered:

The Mechanical and Motor vehicle (both sections under one division) conducts the regular programs of BTEC. The courses offered are the First Diploma, National Diploma and the Higher National Diploma.

BTEC First Diploma

Mechanical
The program is designed to prepare the trainees to be immediately effective in initial employment in assistant technician capacity. It provides appropriate technical skills in the field of mechanical engineering by giving potential technician work-related skills and an understanding of the work environment. This programme consists of eleven modules that are designed so as to cater for the requirements of the modern industries. The programme is offered on a full time basis over a period of one year.

Motor vehicle
This First Diploma program is aimed at preparing students to be immediately effective at initial employment. It provides appropriate technical skills in the field of motor vehicles studies by giving potential technician’s work-related skills and an understanding of the work environment. It consists of ten module of study that will prepare the trainee to enter the modern Automobile Service as assistant technician. The program design is based upon the requirements of modern industries. It is well suited for those already employed and for those seeking work in this field. The program is offered on a full time basis over a one-year period.

BTEC National Diploma

Mechanical
The National Diploma in Mechanical and Plant Engineering is a two-year full time program. It consists of nineteen modules of study that will prepare trainees to work effectively as technicians in industry. The program will equip the trainees to enter the world of work in areas such as mechanical maintenance, manufacturing, in Process industries and Manufacturing firms. Diploma graduates will have the basic underpinning knowledge of the principles of Mechanical Engineering and will be well versed with the tooling and machining techniques and the prevailing industry standards. They will be able to work with little supervision on Mechanical maintenance work including servicing of Air-conditioners, Refrigeration systems, Pumps Fans and Compressors. They will have an understanding of the general characteristics of common engineering materials, their selection and use. Furthermore, they will also be equipped with the knowledge of producing technical drawings both manually and by using computer. Graduates will be able to act effectively as a member of a working team with creative outlook towards responsibility and accountability. The program of study is well structured with a practical approach to trainee-centered learning environment keeping in view the requirements of the latest technology adopted in industry. A detailed project carried out by the trainee in the final year of study would give a thorough exposure to teamwork and the right application of the knowledge.

Motor vehicle
The National Diploma in Automobile Engineering is a two-year full time program. It consists of nineteen modules of study that will prepare trainees to work effectively as technicians in Automobile industry. The program will equip the trainee to enter the world of work in areas such as Automotive Service and repair in the Ministry of Transportation and Authorized Service stations of Automobiles. Diploma graduates will have the basic underpinning knowledge of the principles of Automobile Engineering and will be well versed with the tooling and repairing techniques and also the functioning of the motor vehicles. They will be able to work with little supervision on the maintenance and servicing of the petrol and diesel motor vehicles. They will have an understanding of the general characteristics of the servicing equipment and computer based inspection techniques. Graduates will be able to act effectively as a member of a working team with creative outlook towards the responsibility. The program of study is well structured with a practical approach of student-centered-learning environment keeping in view the requirements of the modem age industries. A detailed project carried out by the trainee in the final year of study would give a thorough exposure to teamwork and the right application of the knowledge.

BTEC Higher National Diploma

Mechanical
The Higher National Diploma in Mechanical engineering is accredited by Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). It is a two years evening program that consists of eighteen modules of study. In this program there is a greater emphasis on applied analytical and conceptual skills that are developed in authentic work-related situations and in genuine investigative project work. Students have a chance to take some optional modules in this program so that they can acquire specialized knowledge in their field on interest.

Motor vehicle
The Higher National Diploma in Mechanical engineering is accredited by Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) accredits the Higher National Diploma in Automotive Engineering. It is a two years program that consists of eighteen units of study. In this program there is a greater emphasis on applied analytical and conceptual skills that are developed in authentic work-related situations and in genuine investigative project work. Trainees have a chance to take some optional units in this program so that they can acquire specialized knowledge in their field of interest.

Corporate Courses

The department has offered corporate courses to several areas such companies and government work places. Many short term courses have been conducted in between. The list is being updated.

The department offers summer on job training for the staff. This summer also plans are under way to train instructors and technicians at several work station related to their field or specialization.

Trainees
As far as the trainees finish or cover their outcomes in the program (National Diploma), they will be nominated for on job training in several work places
