Introduction
The mission of the Bahrain Training Institute is: “To provide high quality customer driven vocational training and entrepreneurship development opportunities in the most efficient and flexible manner to the Gulf region”. As a natural derivative of this the mission of the Computer and Information Technology (CIT) Department is:
- To provide career training for the IT industry.
- To meet the specific needs of organizations by providing appropriate courses.
- To upgrade skills of and provide learning opportunities for IT professionals.
- To promote and transfer IT technology to the country.
The CIT department was established in September 1992 and took in 60 trainees. This number has grown steadily over the years to reach an average of 500 full-time trainees per year. The skills gained by graduates of the department have proved to be highly sought after by employers; about 80% of our graduates gain employment within 3 months of graduation.

- All trainees in BTI (including those who don’t specialize in Computing) are expected to gain all Level 1 skills. This ensures that all BTI graduates have a minimum level of competency in Information Technology.
- When trainees demonstrate competence in all the Level 2 skills together with other generic skills such as communication skills and Health & Safety they can be awarded the First Diploma in Computing. With these skills, graduates are usually employed as junior technicians able to carry out most of the tasks of a typical PC user.
- Similarly when trainees demonstrate competency in all Level 3 skills and other generic skills such as small business start up, they can be awarded the National Diploma in Computing. Graduates with these skills are normally employed as technicians able to set up systems and use the PC competently.
- When trainees demonstrate competence in all Level 4 skills they can be awarded the Higher National Diploma in Business Information Technology. Graduates with these skills are normally employed as senior technicians able to analyse the IT needs of organizations and provide solutions.

The Computer and IT Department has forged close links with employers some of which act in an advisory role as well as delivering seminars and lectures on specific areas of IT.
The partnership with EDEXCEL enables us to offer internationally recognized technician qualifications in a wide range of areas at First, National and Higher National Diploma levels.
This professional certification enables people who use Microsoft Office applications packages to gain an industry standard qualification.
Through Microsoft IT Academy program, BTI provides tools resources and courses that equip trainees with highly sought-after information technology skills and prepare them for Microsoft Certified Professional exams e.g. MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, MCDBA … etc.
CIW is the most know content and certification provider for Web technologies. BTI is the first and so far the only AAP in the region, providing most updated training in the web technology field and preparing its trainees for the CIW certification.
Pearson VUE, the international media company, who continue to implement innovative testing solutions that enhance the performance reliability and security of licensing and certification programs throughout the world. As an Authorized Pearson VUE’s Center, BTI can deliver exams for Microsoft, Cisco, Sun Microsystems - SAI, CompTIA, IBM, MySQL, Novell, Veritas, Adobe, Macromedia, Siemens, SCP, TIA, Siebel Systems and many other testing programs.
Certiport is the exclusive administrator of the Microsoft® Office Specialist program worldwide, responsible for the development, marketing, and administration of certification tests for the Microsoft Office suite. In addition, Certiport offers Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) to certify individuals in broad-based computing and Internet knowledge and skills, as well as World Organization of Webmasters (WOW) exams. BTI is an approved iQcenter and offers certiport testing in Bahrain.

The total number of staff in the CIT department is 39 most of them hold PhD. and MSc. Alongside their academic qualifications lots of the staff have professional certifications namely Cisco Certified Instructors, Microsoft Certified Trainers, Microsoft Certified Engineers, Microsoft Certified Solution Developers, CIW – Certified Instructors, Oracle Certified Professionals, Adobe Certified Experts and Microsoft Office Specialist Masters and more. They experts in their relevant fields with a rich and diverse academic and industrial background coupled with extensive teaching/training experiences.
The Computer and IT department has a range of physical resources that includes over 20 state of the art computer laboratories equipped with 500 plus networked PCs with latest hardware and software resources.
Other State-of-the art labs are setup to accommodate the professional hands-on training needs and to fulfill the requirement of delivering official circular. These specialist Labs include Cisco Labs equipped with the latest range of modular routers and switches, wireless lab, and a dedicate hardware repair and maintenance lab. A Computer Support Unit is also available to keep the Labs maintained and configured to various training needs.
Other resources include classrooms equipped with multimedia, projectors, Internet access via DSL 2MB bandwidth connectivity, a learning resource center, auditorium, testing centers and more.
