Health, Safety and Environment Division

Introduction

The HSE department aims to cater the growing demand for training in occupational health and safety in the local industry.  The industrial sector as well as the commercial sector are realising the need for their managers, supervisors and staff to not only be aware of health and safety but also be capable of managing and performing work with minimum risks.

Our courses are aimed at providing comprehensive training in various disciplines of health and safety.  All courses are geared to prepare trainees to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist the employers make the workplace safe, healthy and accident-free.

First Diploma
First Diploma trainees take the Health and Safety at Work module as part of their curriculum.  The module teaches trainees the basic principles of safety and health in the workplace applicable to a wide range of industry. Topics covered include fire safety, occupational health, accident prevention, electrical safety, work equipment, manual handling, personal protective equipment, etc., mostly focusing on identifying and controlling the hazards involved.

Higher National Diploma
The division delivers a module on health and safety for the 2nd year Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering trainees.  This is the health and Safety and Risk Assessment module. The module aims to develop trainee’s awareness of the principles of health and safety planning and implementation in an industrial environment.  It also introduces the concepts of risk assessment and risk management in industrial operations.
